Problems Resolved (Snarf, Growl, Arrgh)

This page exists as a place to put problems of an irritating nature which I could not find an answer to on the internet, but eventually found some kind of useful solution.  Hopefully, the search engines will index it often enough to be of use to others.  Given all the problems I have fought with over the years, I probably should have started this a long time ago.

WordPerfect on Linux - 06/20/2002

Having recently upgraded my office to the Debian Woody/testing version, I discovered that WordPerfect was now broken.  Nothing I have found on the net gave any resolution for this.  Starting WordPerfect gives the following error message after which the program terminates:

WpFilesBackedUp1_s
WpFilesBackedUp2_s
X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont)
Serial number of failed request: 60
Current serial number in output stream: 61
Unfortunately, I was a little slow on the uptake and didn't recognize the problem/solution immediately.  There is some problem accessing the fonts (what the problem is doesn't matter, I'm switching to OpenOffice, I just need access to all my old documents), and as it happens there are several command line font options for xwp.  My first try with the "-useISOFonts" option, and the program came up normally.  Now I just need to export everything to rtf so that I can import them into OpenOffice before something else breaks in WordPerfect!
