I am a ceramic artist.
 It's the silica in clay that, when breathed over a period of years, can
cause silicosis.

My ceramics studio has been dusty for years and I seem to be ok.
It seems to me that as long as the clay isn't substantialy airborn, it
should be ok  if stabilized somehow in the walls.
