This is to announce 3 Building-With-Earth Workshops in the Central Texas area. Ianto Evans will lead the Natural Building cottage along with his wife Linda and Gayle Borst. Post to me, Yvonne Hansen, <geminideas at greenbuilder.com> for information. Two 2-Day Cob Oven Workshops in the Austin, Texas area >From 9 AM to 5 PM each day. Two opportunities to make new friends, gain knowledge and skills, and get yourself - hands, feet and whole body - into cobbing! Bake bread, pizza, pies and more in an outdoor earth oven In summer, have a heat-free kitchen and tastey dishes When it's cool, gather around the oven's warmth and eat heartily One workshop will be held in Dripping Springs on Saturday and Sunday September 13 & 14 The other will be on Thursday and Friday September 18 & 19 from 9 to 5 at Scarlet Circle, near the "Y" in Oak Hill. You will learn: Materials selection and evaluation, mixing and cobbing techniques, designing, building a cob oven and more. Bring a lunch and beverage, hat, work gloves, and sunscreen. We'll provide earth materials, tools and supplies, info packet, water and snacks. Tuition is $50. Enrollment is limited, so, please register in advance. Natural Building Workshop November 3 - 9, 1997, Blanco County, Texas Ianto Evans of The Cob Cottage Company will lead this valuable, intensive, hands-on learning experience for both owner-builders and people wanting to work professionally with natural materials and methods, and teach them. Topics: Advanced cobbing techniques, design and structue, foundations, earth floors, natural plasters, integration of various crafts, and more. The project will be a small residence with sleeping loft on a beautiful 14 acre tract bordering the Blanco River and bisected by a seasonal creek, with numerous live oak and cedar and grass meadows, as well as limestone outcroppings. Fee for the 7-day workshop is $495 ($450 before Sept. 15) and includes all meals, instructional materials, resource library and camping sites.
