Cob Would it still be "cob"?Michael Blate michaelblate at webtv.netSat Oct 4 03:43:55 PDT 1997
In researching low-cost, structurally-sound building for my farm in NC,
I learned recently that some people were filling the foam-forms (e.g.,
PolySteel, BlueMaxx, etc.) -- which are designed to be filled with
concrete -- with sand, instead of concrete. This touched one of those
special places in my heart: Hi-tech meets low-tech.
So I wondered: What would happen if you did the same thing with mud?
Probably still need to use rebar, of course, but wouldn't it be cob,
too? Or combine local stones + mud. Any thoughts? Any experiences?
Right now, I'm leaning toward foam-forms with the conventional
concrete for the first floor, then putting a SteelMaster-type building
on top of that. Comments appreciated about that, too, even though it's
off-cob.
Thanks, and be well!
