Cob RE: light clay in bagsandy gladish gladish at cnw.netWed Mar 25 23:57:51 CST 1998
'A pattern language' and its companion book had a section on user friendly construction processes. I wonder if some of his/their technology and philosophy would transfer to cob domes. The pattern that dealt with this was called 'stiffening layers' or something very like that. Meaning that you build the shape (of the dome) out of flexible material and add layers to stiffen it rather that building a form and laying really heavy material on it. One possibility is saplings then fabric then resin then cob, stucco, or lightweight concrete and finally a waterproof layer. Much easier for one person to deal with than the rock solid form/ monolithic pour method. Andy Gladish Guemes Is., WA
