Cob COVER MY CLAY OR NOT??? (fwd)Patrick Newberry goshawk at gnat.netMon Jun 1 02:11:10 CDT 1998
Luke: I have noticed the shrinking on my clay piles as well, but not the 1/3 volume you have indicated. It during heavy rains it won't hurt to cover it. I like it when it rains gently and keep the mixture moist so I don't have to add water. Part of that 1/3 might be compression combined with some washing away. Plus my "mixture" is only about 30 percent clay with the rest being sand thus the may have helped keep it from washing away as rapidly vs pure sand. So cover during heavy rains but try to keep the pile moist.
