Cob fireplace making with cobMike Carter and Carol Cannon cobcrew at sprynet.comWed Apr 14 19:26:36 PDT 1999
Does anyone have any actual data on the need for a "refractory interior lining?" I have done 2 flues with strawless cob (tested with fire), 2 in progress with soil cement (cob plus some Portland, not tested) and one with just plain cob (also not yet tested). In each case the flue is about 3 feet or more from the fire source. So I don't have much data yet - I sure don't want to retrofit our chimneys and run the risk of condensate between the cob and the liner.
