Cob: putting stones in wall that stick out?

Hi Chris here from sunny England
Generally it is correct that some houses here do have a weathered gable end
wall faced with slate for protection.
I have never seen stones used in this way on cob building, more often years
ago most cob houses had a good roof overhang of about 600mm or 2 feet in
order to give maximum wall protection

Chris

PS Still carrying out the cob repairs and photo's will appear some time on
our web site.

Hi Randy,

I have a book that shows a house in England that has rock shingles attached
to the cob for this purpose sort of like a roof but not so many of them as
that. It is definately a roofing technique that was used on the side of the
house that the rain blew on to.

Does anyone have a picture of "putting stones in a wall that stick out" to
limit the rain's contact with wall, and how far an eave should overhang the
wall to do the same?

"Much better are the ideas of putting a roof on the
wall with an overhang and putting stones in it that stick out."
