Cob: Ants in my walls.

I have been building a cob structure for most of this summer, and in the past 
few weeks I have noticed ants are drilling into the cob at different hieghts. 
 Has anybody had similiar troubles, and what can be done about it?  I 
definatly don't want to use any insecticides on it.
