Attached is an announcement of interest to those involved in the California Power Controversy. CITIZENS ENERGY LOBBY TO MEET IN SACRAMENTO AT NOON WED FEB 14 ON WEST STEPS OF CAPITOL At noon, Feb. 14th (Valentine's Day) there will be a Citizens Lobby meeting on the west steps of the Capitol to lobby the legislature. We will have a Citizens Lobby van with Citizens Lobby sashes. Program will be to support the following bills YES to SB23X-- by Senator Nel Soto makes forming a MUD easier; Yes to SB33X-- by Senator John Burton - to create a California Power Authority to take over the electric transmission system; Yes to SB5x -- by Senator Byron Sher - funds for conservation and renewables like photovoltaics; YES to -- Carole Migden's Community Choice bill. (No bill number assigned yet). But NO NO NO to AB18X; by "Bailout Bob" Hertzberg, Speaker of the Assembly. TO FIND OUT MORE about the CITIZENS LOBBY, call Barbara George, Berkeley, Women's Energy Matters, 510-528-5104, bgwem at igc.org Global Exchange, San Francisco, at 415-255-7296, or medea at globalexchange.org. Check out as well www.powertothepeople.org where information will soon be posted, including info. regarding the utility and generator contributions to 114 of 119 Assembly members and State Senators. Global Exchange and Women's Energy Matters are demanding that members take all of these contributions and donate them to consumer and environmental groups which are fighting for people's right to reasonably-priced energy. DEFEND PRESIDENT LYNCH OF THE CPUC: Republican lobbyist Sal Russo has authored THE CORRUPTION OF POWER, a slimy hit piece against President Loretta Lynch which blames her for NOT raising rates and saving PG&E and Edison and which attempts to tie her to the Whitewater scandal. The Republicans and the deregulation right wing of the Democratic Party are targeting Loretta Lynch because she has had the gall to insist on an honest accounting of what happened to the deregulation bailout funds which went to PG&E Co. and Southern California Edison. The CPUC study, which came out two weeks ago, showed that both PG&E Corp. and Edison International, holding companies which own the regulated utilities, have each pocketed $5 billion which they have invested in energy ventures everywhere but California. Lynch is the first CPUC president in over a decade to defend consumer and environmental and labor rights. NO BAILOUTS! SOLAR ENERGY NOW! MAKE CONSERVATION OUR CHIEF PRIORITYI Dan & Loma Enero Berman at 530-757-6609. Coalition for Local Power, Davis, California (Dan Berman is the author of WHO OWNS THE SUN?) For more info. on public power check out www.dmud.org P.S. On Monday, Feb 12 at 2pm the SF Board of Supervisors will vote to put the SFMUD proposition on the November ballot. Be there to give support and to celebrate. And congratulations to all the 250 of you who attended last night's spirited Labor Party public power teach-in in San Francisco, featuring SF Board of Supervisors Board President Tom Ammiano, Graham Brownstein of TURN, Angela Alioto, former Board of Supes President, IBEW1245 member and PG&E worker Robin David, Medea Benjamin, and Anthony Mazzocchi, lead organizer for the Labor Party. SEE YOU ALL ON THE WEST STEPS OF THE CAPITOL, WEDNESDAY NOON, FEBRUARY 14. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
