Cob: Any body building with cob in the Athens, Ga. area?Eric Lawson Ericnathanlawson at excite.comThu Dec 20 09:56:15 CST 2001
Sabrina, Welcome to Athens. I haven't built anything out of cob yet, but I too am looking to do so soon. I've lived in the Athens area for about 14 years now, and I can tell you that clay will be no problem at all to acquire! If you buy a piece of land with creek frontage or river frontage, sand will be no problem either. Since there is a good deal of construction in the area, finding concrete waste slabs for a foundation seems like a cheap (or free) prospect in the area as well. I haven't found a source of straw yet, but I'm sure that this is just from a lack of trying. I would love to assist in any building projects that you may wish to start when you move. If you have done any cobbing before, I would love to learn from you in return for work assisting you with building. If you have not, I would love to learn and experiment with you! As far as building codes, I really don't know, but my guess is that Oglethorpe or Madison counties would have the best potential in that regard. I will begin researching this subject and I'll let you know anything I find out. I'm really excited about having someone else interested in cob living close by! -Eric On Sun, 09 Dec 2001 16:42:45 -0500, Sabrina L Acevedo wrote: > Hello, we are hoping to relocate to the Athens area in the spring.
