Mr. Fordice,,, ô¿ô Years ago I knew a guy that was a soils specialist
for the Minnesota DNR. He gave me a tour of his lab. in Cass Lake, and
showed me how he analyzed and classified the soils.
Now my question is, How would doing " Something " like that to the
earth/clay mixture help in the codifying of the material before construction
started?

Now the way that he would do this. He would first dry the sample. He would
weigh the soil, and pass it through progressively smaller screens, and weigh
each progression. And after the finest screen he would mix what was left
over with water. And after waiting a timed length, he would pour the
suspension into another beaker. The stuff that settled, he would dry and
weigh. The suspension would be dried and weighed.
With these weights he would then classify the soil..
I don't think that I left too much out of the description, although it was
20 yrs ago that I saw this demonstration. ~¿~ bill
