Cob: Compromise on Foil and Foam?

FIRST I AM NO EXPERT just a person who thinks alot about why some things I have built has lasted thirty years while others are no longer here.

My family has found that foil on inside of roof reduces cooling bills a great deal.[the foil is placed on wood beams just on the underside of roof and air flows up and out as not to trap mositure.]

If a person was to make a mistake and put lets say foam with foil backing on a wall. They can drill holes 3 to 5 inchs apart to allow air to pass through.

Mositure which becomes trapped will freeze and thaw causeing problems.
No matter wheter it is concrete wood etc. The constant wetting and drying is what causes change in the strenght of material. Also the harmfull rays of the sun. Also causes changes and it is that repeating change that seems to break down material.

I have found wood that was left in water for decades and it still was strong enough when dried out to use. Because it remained in a unchanged state.
The same is true with wood that is frozen but stays in that state.

Aerogel has had a bad rap but it is only sand and air mixture which was invented in the 1930's made with no high tech stuff. It has the ablity to breath, stop heat and cooling transfer and is fire proof. THe product the public is aware of is fragile and still under developement by mansanto. But If allowed to be used by the public would allow a cob home to last almost forever. I seen nano type particles put with it and it can change color and even purpose for what is needed. Guess our great great grand kids will see it ?. I wrote a scientist at manasanto and to his disgust the buzz word is maybe this century. That is what was said in the seventies.[excuse my ramblings brian in thawing process.]
