Hi Jayla:
I am in West Virginia, which is sometimes thought to be north east, at least
by SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education grant program)....
I am a co-director of the Sustainable Development for West Virginia group
and we plan on focussing on Sustainable and Natural Building in 2003.
Toward that end, a group of us has begun work on a cob bench which is half
done now (stopped by wet weather and my injuries from being rearended in an
automobile accident Oct. 2nd). The aforesaid ant swarm (see previous
postings to deatech.com) has disappeared from the cob (a momentary lapse of
manners, I suppose) and I did lay tansy branches over the cob in order to
discourage any more ant orgies thereon. The shed room has been erected over
the incipient cob bench - it is composed of wooden supports, 2 x 4 roof
structure and steel sheets. We began this project in order to get our feet
wet (and our hands, and our pants and anything else in the way) on a lovely
September day. If the weather breaks and my back doesn't, I hope to finish
the bench before winter. If not, spring will have to do.

I also have begun having the foundation and drains for a small apprentice
house dug and have been talking with Becky Bee about doing a workshop here
in the future. In the meantime, we (The Sustainable Group) plan a series of
workshops to do some of the preliminary foundation work. My fellow dowser,
Art Digman, was here for the bench workshop, and he graciously dowsed which
trees to fell around my big garden for wood for the future apprentice
housing. I hope to be able to have an apprentice from West Africa here in
2003 to help with this also. He wants to take the information back to West
Africa about cobbing as done here in the U.S. - he is also interested in the
essential oil distillery project here. If you are interested in attending
some or all of the workshops in 2003, please email me at lapaix at iolinc.net.
For more information on La Paix, see my web site at
www.lapaixherbaljourney.com. For more information on Sustainable
Development in West Virginia, see the web site at
www.sustainabledevelopmentforwv.com. I am new to computer land and
designing web sites, so won't be working on updating either website until
December or January. Then I will post the dates for the workshops on both
sites. I hope anyone who is interested in learning from the ground up with
us will let me know.

Joy on Your Journey. Namaste. Myra
P.S. Don't forget to vote Tuesday! We need a sustainable democracy.....
