Cob: lime and pozzolansPJ Benet-Davis pjb at quinnemanuel.comFri Jan 31 08:21:23 PST 2003
Hi! This is P.J. (the lurker) here. Want desperately to build with cob and maybe reinsulate an old trailer. I've gotta say - - Hey guys - this morning in a treasure trove of wonderful material. However, I have mentioned this to Cat and have wondered about how to overcome the problem of my not being able to print anything Cat sends. Is anyone else having this problem? >>> "Amanda Peck" <ap615 at hotmail.com> 01/30/03 08:37PM >>> Pozzolans is the technical term for the additive. Rice husk ash is one. BUT I winced when I heard them talking about quicklime. Charmaine will undoubtably chime in with information here. Well aged lime putty is the usual base for lime creations--and truly well-aged can be generations, not hours, days or weeks. Quicklime is DANGEROUS! Here's a random link: http://www.buildingconservation.com/articles/pozzo/pozzo.htm "Materials which enable lime mortars to set more rapidly include ash and brick dust. Known as 'pozzolans' after the volcanic additives used by the Romans, these materials are widely found in the lime mortars used in old buildings and monuments." Cat and the rest of us want a roman bath! And the friends nearby to help us use it. And someone else to do the work of maintaining it. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
