[Cob] Building Cob House in MozambiqueMichael Fitzgerald puppetman at ix.netcom.comWed Nov 12 18:03:07 PST 2003
Hi Kyle Welcome to the list. Couple of references you might be interested in. Here are two books you can access on line. The second one deals extensively with floor plans and building layout for the third world. http://www.gtz.de/basin/publications/books/CEBVol1.pdf and http://www.gtz.de/basin/publications/books/CEBVol2.pdf. Volume 2 has the most about floor plans and how to keep it small. There is also a book entitled "Architecture for the Poor" by Hassan Fathy. It is an old book and out of print, but is an extensive discussion on indigenous architecture that might inspire you. I got mine from Taylor Publications http://www.dirtcheapbuilder.com She also has many other small hard to find pubs on things like mud flooring and thatching. Check out this site for some real connections to architecture and Africa. http://www.gtz.de/basin/index.htm There's alot of stuff in the cob archives as well. Cheers; Michael Fitzgerald Anthropologist/Woodcarver/Puppetmaker
