David, I can't answer the Tyvec question, but you are living in a sieve if you haven't plastered those light straw clay walls. Even with the depth of a strawbale wall at 18", without plaster on both sides, there is a great deal of leaking and very low R value. You've probably got 12" at best, and the integral clay helps, but not sufficiently. Slather that finish on! If I were you, I'd put extruded polystyrene to its best use and get it in the rafter space. Have you checked out the radiant films like the kind that's applied to Polarply? That will cut down on your radiant loss. Barbara
