Gain experience making and applying natural paints,
plasters, & finishes for interior and exterior
surfaces. In his hands on workshop, we will be
painting and plastering the living room of a
conventionally built house. Highlights include
dispersal methods of natural pigments, work with
traditional adobe Alis (clay paint), kaolin plaster,
and casein washes. Instructors: Meka Bunch and Shannon
Simpson


COB BREAD OVENS
April 17 & 18, 2004 Saturday 9-5 pm / Sunday 9-3 pm

Cob: An age-old earthen building technique using clay,
sand, and straw to hand form monolithic mass
structures.
Learn how simple and fun it is to make an outdoor,
wood fired earthen oven. Come prepared to get your
hands in the mud and leave with a basic working
knowledge of materials and techniques to sculpt your
own oven from mostly local materials. Nothing tastes
quite like food baked in the evenly radiating interior
of a cob oven. Includes recipes and cooking tips.

This is an exciting workshop for those wanting
experience using a variety of natural building
materials and techniques. Learn how multiple mediums
work together, constructing simple outdoor walls in a
unique camp setting with a view of MT. Tamalpias. An
added highlight is the building of a Rumford style
fireplace incorporated into the design! Instructors:

Note: Additional workshops may be added, May 15-16
and/or June 5-6.

 
MOSAIC EXPLORATIONS
May 8 & 9, 2004 Saturday 9-5 pm / Sunday 10-5 pm

You will be introduced to the ancient art of
assembling colorful mosaics from small fragments of
man made, natural, recycled and organic materials.
Think of this class as a "trailhead”, the beginning of
a wonderful hike on your own path of mosaic
exploration. You’ll learn basic, intermediate and
advanced techniques in one dynamic and fun workshop.
You'll gain a newfound understanding of the direct
mosaic method that you can use to create beautiful
architectural features and decorative art projects
including floors, wall murals, mirror frames,
walkways, fountains, et. Instructor: Debra Amerson
Warning: You will leave these classes tired... and
with a burning desire to mosaic everything within
sight!
