[Cob] regarding fireplaces

Greetings and peace be with your day,

I have been reading the threads on fireplaces and ovens with great interest. When I lived in Europe, we cooked on a wood burning stove that had a traditional chimney, and something called a 'back boiler' for heating the domestic hot water. There was also a 'back boiler' behind one of the post war tile fireplaces in the dining room, too.

Regarding indoor open fires, I remember when I was a kid at girl scout camp we had a meeting room that had a raise firepit in the center of the room. The base of the fire was raised to maybe knee height, and the fireplace was open in that, with something that looked like a huge inverted metal funnel hung over it at maybe shoulder height that worked as a chimney. I don't know HOW it worked, but it did appear to function well. I'd like to erect such a creature in the center of a 13' inside diameter earthbag dome, to use as a meditation room. If there are any engineers out there who wouldn't mind sharing the 'how-to' I'd sure appreciate the wisdom!

Peace be with you always,

rainbow
