Straw bale is high-tech--at least l9th century high tech. It needed a
baling machine.

So while there aren't "centuries" old SB houses, there are some around one
century old. A few of the original Nebraska jobs, and the Burritt Museum in
Huntsville Alabama. Although the latter has had quite a bit of water damage
(it also burned once--something we didn't think was possible). So I think
that no one's quite sure how much straw there is left in the walls--they may
be formed of a nice big air-space covered with concrete (probably).

Your description is very lucid, thank you. What do you think about the
longevity of straw bale building compared to cob? I understand a cob
structure can last for centuries, but what about straw bale structures?
