Check out some books on earth sheltered housing. Water is a great way to
store heat and it can be used by integrating columns of water inside
whatever structure you're building. The examples I've seen use either
stacked 55 gallon drums or large drainage pipes placed where a south-facing
glass wall will expose them to sunlight in the winter months. Typically, the
columns are used as an interior wall. The down side is they take up a lot of
room.
