The issues is that the air in-between the buckets has contracted in the cool
months causing a tighter “vacuum” seal.

 

Put the buckets into a warm environment to help expand the air in the
spaces. 

 

Also make sure the buckets are ABSOLUTELY dry when you stack them together.

 

You may also try ‘scoring’ the out side of the buckets with little grooves
to allow the air to enter or escape easier. This will also help reduce the
total friction that is helping to hold the buckets together.
