[Cob] Limewash/Whitewash and other permeable paint options

I live in a house which is whitewashed, and every second or third year the walls do need a touch up. Places where rain hits the walls or you touch them, the lime wears of. 
On new sections of wall, in my experience, the plaster needs four or five coats to cover.
