I wouldn't say you "over oiled" your floor, you just didn't mop up/ spread
out the excess soon enough.
The stickies will eventually "cure" hard and shiny.  But they will also grab
all sorts of dirt, socks etc. in the mean time if you walk on them.  We have
found an spot orange oil rub down works if you can't wait for the spots to
set up in their own time.
