To Tim & All other interested cobbers,

CRI is working on behalf of all cobbers. We need volunteers - join in if you can !!!

Regarding mixing:
I prefer to make a wet mix of the soil, sand & water using a powered mixer. Then I tarp the wet mix and stomp (actually my technique is more like wedging ceramic clay) in the fiber / straw. True, the stomping dance can be a source of joy, but when time & quantity is an issue, a power mixer is faster and uses less personal energy ( a personal geriatric decision ).
Both methods work.

Regarding Cob Building Permits:
This Cob Thermal Test is to establish an accurate U value for cob. U value can be numerically converted to the R value as R = 1/U. Cob’s R value needs to be established to demonstrate energy compliance required for building permits once cob is accepted into the building codes. This is important work towards the future of making cob building permits possible.
