I hope that this isn't off at too much of a tangent but another natural
material that I know has been used in renders for the inside of chimneys
(that being my profession and passion) is animal hair.  Have there been
any investigations into this as a binding agent?  I suppose that
quantity could be a problem unless you are prepared to end up with herds
of bald cows :)
