I understand the importance & function of the basic soil constituents of:
clay
sand
& silt
which your explanation has reinforced

so
since you raised the issue of testing to determine particle size
what will the particle size testing tell us regarding
the percentages of the basic soil constituents?

what is the particle size that will represent clay
what is the particle size that will represent silt
what is the particle size that will represent sand

not to be terriply scientific but rather to know what the numbers would mean
if we tested to get them
