Now's the time to get your fuel-efficient cob stoves and fireplaces
built. Cob Cottage Co. is offering PYROMANIA! Workshops this fall. Space
is limited in both, and both have spaces available.
Build a Rumford Fireplace*
October 6-7, Coquille, OR
Count Rumford was a pyrogenius, friend of Ben Franklins. Two hundred
years ago he developed the cleanest-burning, most-efficient,
best-heating system for open-grate fires. The stove is so good nobody
has improved upon it. Traditionally, Rumford fireplaces are $10,000
specialist works in brick. CCC has developed a cob version that anyone
can build in two days for $50. Well build a Rumford fireplace start to
finish and explore many other aspects of combustion, comfort, and
heating our bodies not buildings. And well have fun by the autumn campfire.
Build A Downdraft Rocket mass heater* October 26-28, Cottage Grove, OR
Well build a gravity-feed downdraft rocket floor heater stove. Rocket
stoves are easy to build with scavenged materials, offering maximal
efficiency at minimal cost. Many cob builders install rocket bench
heaters, piping their stove through a cob bench, making a cozy place to
hang out in the winter months. Well explore many other aspects of
combustion, comfort, and heating our bodies not buildings, using our own
several unique, hand-built stoves as examples. And well have fun by the
autumn campfire. Begins Friday at 6 p.m. with dinner and end Sunday at 2
p.m.
$200 fee includes materials, use of tools, camping space and all meals.
10% discount friends and families coming together, 25% discount for
alumni of other CCC courses. (Total 25% discount perperson.) Rocket workshop,
10% discount for full pay by September 26. Limit 8 people.
