hmmm, interesting discussion, but the metal roof wins hand down in a conventional configuration, and insurance companies *love* them which translates into lower premiums due to their fire resistance. Living earth roofs are the best, IMHO, but the margin of error in construction is smaller and the risks much greater, plus you lose the benefit of water catchment (which for us is a prime consideration).
