Cob: Michael Smith workshop photos

Hi there, just wondering about the earthbag foundation....maybe I'm not 
observing things correctly, in the photos, it looks to me like they were
placed directly on the ground at ground level. Was the foundation dug at
all, are there more earthbags underneath?
