[Cob] cob fireplace, cob around wood stove

Is it true that adobe fireplace is not as heat efficient? So, you could cob around a weed stove, leaving just the door exposed? How do you do that? Just put some type of layer between the stove and the cob - layer of what? 

This would make the stove area safer for children? And dumb wiener dogs that insist on scooting under it and burning their backs !

It would be much prettier to be in a cob house - and you could tile it or something like a mosaic? 

Could you have a air space from the cobbed stove through a bench or into another room? 

Am I not understanding this right?
