[Cob] Thermal nosebleed >Cob and Cobwood hybridAmanda Peck ap615 at hotmail.comSun Nov 16 16:39:45 CST 2003
I figured that I'd let the person who coined the term mention what she meant by it. Another, somewhat related problem with cordwood is that round wood cracks as it dries. This can lead to infiltration that makes the small shrinkages between the mortar and the wood look insignificant. Also consider the invasion of the Asian Lady Beetles. Thousands of them through the cracks in the wood of the nearby semi-cordwood house. The owners HATE Asian Lady Beetles. It could have been caulked but it was probably easier and a whole lot less time consuming to just cover up the outside. Don't have to think, just cover it up! We can hope that all the problems we have with COB!! or other natural building techniques are going to be as easily solved. But the inside walls of the house are gorgeous. The whole daycreek site is mostly about cordwood. This page has a picture of Doug's house as originally built (and a 20-something-year old picture of Doug--he doesn't look like that now) http://www.daycreek.com/dc/html/doug_kalmer.htm _________________________________________________________________ Great deals on high-speed Internet access as low as $26.95. https://broadband.msn.com (Prices may vary by service area.)
