Mary and Angela have stated my feelings on the subject of ivy.  It's a real 
menace here in the Pacific Northwest.  I wouldn't grow it anywhere on my 
property, and certainly not anywhere near cob structures.  I've seen it 
completely tear apart brick retaining walls!
