2005 Apprenticeships at Ahimsa Sanctuary, in the Oregon Coast Range
We are currently seeking a limited number of generous, hardworking
volunteers for our apprenticeship program. At Ahimsa Sanctuary we are
committed to learning the path of peace, developing a retreat dedicated
to organic, sustainable living.
Current projects include natural building (adobe/"cob"), organic
agriculture (market gardening/orchard), permaculture
landscaping/waterworks, nonviolence education & community building.
Our sister project is Intaba's Wood Fired Eatery, an organic restaurant
in neighboring Corvallis. Apprentices will work and study at the
Ahimsa homestead, at Intaba's restaurant and on other land leases.
Primary instructors include John, organic farmer and builder, and
Ocean, peace educator and natural builder. Openings available
immediately, with length of stay to be determined based upon mutual
assessment of skills and learning goals. Initial one week "working
interview" required. Apprentices will be provided with organic meals
(great food!), shared kitchen/bath, camping/bunkhouse lodging.
We work hard, maintaining "farming hours", and expect the same from our
volunteer apprentices. Although we cannot offer a monetary stipend for
apprentices, possible opportunities for cropsharing/market garden
income exist. However, apprentices should not apply who have ongoing
financial needs or obligations ( student loans/car payments/medical
bills/lifestyle expenses).
If you are interested, please email a resume with a cover letter
detailing: Three learning goals for your apprenticeship, a personal
statement about your interests in organics and sustainability, and
three work references.
We look forward to hearing from you!
