Hello!
this is thomas from austin. I am volunteering for a
couple months with CommonGroundRelief (.org) in New
Orleans.
CommonGround is looking for a couple of team leaders
who would be interested in coming down and leading a
crew of locals and/or long term volunteers in
rebuilding a house that has been gutted.
This would both be a living space and a pilot of the
potential of green building for future houses, as well
as teaching locals and/or long time volunteers.
Especially important would be green electrical and
plumbing issues. Also to be worked on would be
kitchen and bathroom. The house is basically
a shell, with fine outer walls, (roof unsure!?)
I was thinking that for redoing the interior walls
that natural (light clay-straw) techniques and
plasters would be super useful--- despite the
potential for future flooding-- which would ruin
everything anyway-- and it atleast wouldn't be toxic.
Common Ground could definitely pay the way and the
room and board of the leaders in this project- but
probably could not pay above that. Building/work
would begin after April 9th, as soon as possible-
but the dates/length are not yet firm.
thank you so much!
please contact me with any leads or questions!!
peace and passion,
thomas
