A Benefit for the Sambanyi Project

Dance for a cause at FireWorks' Third Annual World Beat Equinox, the
final in a series of five Southtown Street Party benefit events.
Proceeds will benefit the Sambanyi Project. Headliner acts include
Sar Shalom, Debo, Mamadou and Burning Truth Tribe, along with a Local
Musician Showcase, FireWorks Bellydance Troupe, Green Living Fair,
Natural Building Slideshows, Henna Tattoo & more! FireWorks will
offer a special Local Harvest World Cuisine menu all day, along with
Hawaiian Shave Ice and Local Brews from Ninkasi, Oregon Trail, Block
15 & Calapooia. Admission is free; $10 suggested donation.
Natural Building & Sustainability Lecture Series
2pm: Ocean Liff-Anderson presents "The Making of FireWorks"
- Proprietor Ocean Liff-Anderson takes us on a journey into the
history of the FireWorks phenomenon with an entertaining slideshow
and lecture. See pictures of the construction earthen walls and Maya,
FireWorks' earthen oven. Learn about the challenges and awards of
running a green, organic restaurant.
3pm: Robert Bolman presents "The Elegant Collapse - Toward a
Complete, Bottom-to-Top Restructuring of Human Civilization"
"I examine various criteria for genuine, meaningful sustainability. I
show various examples of what sustainability might look like. Then I
examine the reasons why real sustainability is specifically not being
implemented. Those reasons include, economics, education, democracy
and (last but not least) human consciousness." Rob's approach and
presentation carry a positive and hopeful outlook for our future. Rob
Bolman is a natural builder, community organizer, visionary and
founder of the Maitreya EcoVillage in Eugene.
4pm: Kiko Denzer presents "The Art of Natural Building"
- Kiko Denzer, FireWorks' resident sculptor and builder of Maya,
highlights his focus on aesthetics, art and community building in a
fascinating slideshow. Kiko will autograph copies of his book "Build
Your Own Earth Oven" & "Dig Your Hands in the Dirt".

Noon-5pm: Local Musicians Showcase & FireWorks Bellydance Troupe
- A host of excellent performances by our favorite Southtown
performers, playing blues, singer/songwriter, bellydancers and more!

5pm: Sambanyi - Debo and Ibrahim
- Uplifting and inspiring music. The blending of musical cultures
with Hammered Dulcimer and West African Percusson on Balon, Gongoma,
Djembe and Duns.
6pm: Mamadou with Daaray Bay-Fall
- Traditional music of Guinea and Senegal West Africa featuring
Ibrahima Sylla from Guinea, Mamadou and Abdoulaye Thoiub from Senegal.
7pm: The Sar Shalom Project with Santino Cadiz, Reggae Jazz Funk
- Celebrate Sar Shalom's Southtown CD Release! This new experimental
project is a collection of friends who share a similiar dream, to
promote peace and unity through music. Santino Cadiz showcases his
style of roots rock reggae in this new six piece band. Visit Sar

10pm: Autumn Harvest Celebration with Burning Truth Tribe
- Burning Truth Firedance Theater presents "The Season's Change": An
Autumn Harvest Celebration. Join us on a mythic journey through
ancient goddess symbology. Meet Inanna, Goddess of the Harvest, her
sister, Ereshkigal, The Great Lady Under the Earth, & Isis, Mother of
All, as they dance the story of the changing seasons and celebrate
the abundant harvest. The Burning Truth performance troupe focuses on
the intrinsic connection between music, song, and dance while
incorporating elements of theater and mythic storytelling to reflect
the changing seasons and The Wheel of the Year. "Burning Truth
weaves a tapestry of gypsy fusion, bringing fiery visuals together
with melodic, acoustic-based sounds and a world beat." - Laura Eberly

Green Living Fair Exhibiters and Vendors Needed!
Exhibit spaces will be 10'x10' booths in the parking lot behind
FireWorks restaurant. Exhibitors will need their own tents and
tables. If you are interested in exhibiting, please contact us with
detailed info on your booth. No charge for vendor space, donations
to the benefit are appreciated.
The World Beat Equinox is a benefit for Sambanyi!
Sambanyi is a non profit organization that supports development and
positive growth of business and education in the cultural arts in
Guinea and Senegal West Africa through direct action. Monies will go
to towards developing an Eco village with sustainable businesses
(restaurant, recording studio etc.), a school/home for homeless
children and support for medical care, using appropriate progressive
technologies. We are also committed to the development of
Multicultural education in the US. May love be the guiding force! For
