Hello all you lovely cobbers and those with mud twixt 'yer toes!
This is a bit off topic, but please allow me to announce this one
time...I am officially retired from running my bookstore on 1-21-10.
Like our venerable list manager "Cob Kahuna" who often goes on
walkabout.. I too have planned to do my OWN "middle-age walkabout"
this year, and next, and come visit many of you whom I talked with
over the last decade!
and Dirtcheapbuilder books will add more useful books.....
A wonderful green builder, and decent human being, Tom Elpel, is
taking over and running the DCB store from his own hand-built stone
home in Pony, Montana. Pop. 83, you can visit his "Green
University" now at www.hollowtop.com
Pony MT is so small he bought the local Post office and general
store in Silver Star MT, so he is also the postmaster too.
Tom is not active on the elists as he spends time building, writing,
raising 4 kids with his wife Rene, and recently did a one month stone
age living program, with other anthropologists/archaeologists who
study how people lived/built/survived in primitive times.
Tom has done a ton (really) of work on creating low cost and natural
homes, and also used recycled and salvage materials. He writes his
own books on botany, living in the wild, primitive living, how to
live sustainably without Money as your God, and also his "Living
Homes" book- about stone and papercrete, and how to do the
rest-plumbing, solar, roofs, etc., and DVD on building a stone home
DIY.
I will be here, as a private citizen and active builder, and hope to
contribute with more dedication now that I have time to
experiment; especially with paper cob and paper lime plasters, and old
world plasters of lime.
I will list my own authored 25+ booklets and Resource Guide CDs
online (see my signature below) , and as usual I don't push or promote
selling anything, but I DO point to good resources, books, educational
and DIY materials, and any FREE books you might want to know about.
I actually have the heart of a research librarian, and I love getting
muddy!! so I hope to offer tips and time savers from experimenting
and testing materials.
all my best for a healthy and productive new year for you all....
