[Cob] MobileMe Gallery - Broadgreen Cob HouseDulane silkworm at spiderhollow.comTue Mar 30 12:16:13 CDT 2010
I wonder what kind of paint is used on the outside and foundation currently? There doesn't appear to be much damage. I hope it lasts another couple centuries. -----Original Message----- From: coblist-bounces at deatech.com [mailto:coblist-bounces at deatech.com] On Behalf Of David Anderson Sent: Monday, March 29, 2010 12:30 PM To: coblist at deatech.com Subject: [Cob] MobileMe Gallery - Broadgreen Cob House Here is the link (below) to the photos of the cob house in Nelson, New Zealand mentioned in "The Hand Sculpted House" book. Unfortunately they would not allow pictures inside. It was completed in 1855 and survived two earthquakes. Apparently the soil excavated while building the basement was used for the walls with addition of horse hair and straw. Outside walls approx. 18 inches thick. Inside walls approx. 6-8 inches thick. Originally had a slate roof. A big thanks to Alex MacKenzie for helping me find this house.
