Some thoughts on keeping floors dry:

 

All the typical things need to be done outside the house for drainage:

-          under wall drainage

-          French drains

-          Sloping ground away from building

-          At least 4 inches of gravel underneath the floor

-          Large overhangs

 

We had a situation where we couldn't quite get 4 inches of gravel in one
area of the house (long story) so we put down a vapor barrier ( a plastic
sheet) and put our subfloor on top of that. It seems to be just fine, just
like all the other areas.
