There are waterproofing agents available that can "lock up the surface"
of unfired earth or cob making it suitable to recieve adhesives like
"Liquid Nails", or others (see the archives of this group on chemicals).
An understanding of the mechanical factors of surface bonding helps. A
surface can shear, so a surface treatment must saturate effectively.
The only way to test is to experiment then compare costs, labor,
strength (of materials) and what impact the method may have on building
inspections if required.
