Cob earthen floors

Hello listers,

I've been working on our earthen floor, getting ready to move in. Have
questions and observations.

What is the method for troweling the final coat to get a tight,
non-porous surface? I seem to be able to do this part of the time but
not with any consistancy even within the same well mixed batch of
material. Have tried various ratios of clay and sand. The bulk of the
surface is porous and needs something like floor wax or polyurethane to
seal the porosity.

After sealing with two coats of Natural Choice linseed oil sealer a test
coat of AFM polyurethane on a small area produced a nice smooth finish.
