Most interesting! I see you have put some thought into this. So far,
your thoughts seem to be one of the better. Human waste is something that
must be carefully handled, but most folks think of the old ways (hole in
ground) and don't know of all the problems these caused, since they didn't
have a long discussion with the old country doctor before he died off. Then
there were the folks that died and no one knew why.
We are still learning of the problems human waste can cause. Normally,
the problems are not manifested until we start having more than one family
per 10 acres. Assuming that family takes human waste handling seriously.
For a long while it was one family per 160 acres, since that was a "square"
of farm land. Then farms started getting smaller, and towns started to
grow. It still amazes me most folks where not aware their ground water was
becoming contaminated due to the location of some of the "poop" sheds until
the 1900's. You would think the lessons learned during the civil war would
have made a lasting impression.
I suppose history is lost on most folks. You know how kids hate school.
I beat that is why so many folks do not read books about this kind of thing
even today, but will go out and make a "poop" shed without much thought.
