The traditional (Devon) model is to build the cob wall on an impervious 
foundation - (dry stacked stone) to get it up away from the ground moisture.  
Do you think this would serve to solve the midwest summer moisture problem 
you point out? 
As for the floor, The traditional model (devon again) is to use a breathable 
material (earth) & build it on layers of smaller to larger stone (going down) 
to create a capillary break.  How does this sound to you?
