The Natural Building Colloquium East (June 3-10) is fast approaching and I
thought you might like an update on it. If you've never attended any event
of this type (colloquiums or "Build Here Now") I highly recommend them.
There's nothing else like them. This is the only one in the Eastern US. The
only problem I had at the previous one (NBC-East 1998) was deciding where
to be each moment, between 5 or 6 really interesting things happening

Natural Building Colloquium East - 2000 (NBC-East 2000) 
"Building with Spirit"
June 3-10, 2000 - PeaceWeaver Center, Bath New York

Join us for a unique hands-on natural building and permaculture educational
exploration.

"Building with Spirit" (BWS), hosted by Green Logic Design, The
PeaceWeavers, and The Natural Building Colloquium - East 2000, is an
opportunity to gather with friends and family within the spiritually
affirming PeaceWeaver community. The PeaceWeavers are a non-profit
educational community supporting greater peace and healing for individuals,
families and groups interculturally. 

Intent: To explore natural building and permaculture techniques, continue
to grow an east coast natural building community, relax and reflect,
network and create partnerships, and assist the PeaceWeavers continue their
goal of creating opportunities for peace. 

Topics: Presenter participants will share their experience and knowledge
through hands-on workshops, demonstrations and discussions including
* natural building and non-toxic building design
* straw-bale building
* cob construction
* cordwood masonry
* straw-clay infill
* plastering
* bamboo design and construction
* earth bag building
* thatch and slate roofs
* workshops on energy efficiency
* alternative energy production and appropriate technologies
* permaculture
* ecology
* plant and human waste composting.

Learning sessions focusing on housing issues include

* diversity
* affordability
* sustainability and rebuilding after war and environmental disaster.

Event participants are welcome to join in the PeaceWeavers daily practice
of morning yoga and meditation; afternoon and evening talking stick
circles, hiking and swimming (sweat lodges may also be offered). Bodywork
and healing sessions are available.

The Site: The PeaceWeaver Retreat Center in Bath, New York is on 265 acres
of beautiful and inspiring rolling hills, fields, forest and a spring fed
lake. 

Lodging: Tent sites, field or woods, are available, male and female
outdoors-solar showers. Some indoor lodging will be available in the
PeaceWeaver center Long House for elders, families and people with special
needs. We encourage all participates to stay on site, no discounts will be
offered for off site stays.

Cost: $495 pp. Registration deadline May 15, 2000. Children 5-12, $100;
12-16, half price; parents are responsible for their children; some
childcare will be provided at times. Cost includes three vegetarian and/or
vegan meals daily, on site camping and all learning sessions. A limited
number of partial and full scholarships as well as work exchange
opportunities will be available, call for application and details. Body
work and healing sessions are not included; call the PeaceWeavers to make
individual appointments.  

Travel Information: Bath New York is in the western and southern tier of
the state, five hours from NYC and Philadelphia, four and one half from
Cleveland, four from Albany, two from Buffalo, two from Syracuse and one
hour from Rochester. Regional airports are located in Rochester and Elmira.
