Cob: Sealer For cob benchcaoimhin at indigo.ie caoimhin at indigo.ieSat Sep 16 16:20:28 CDT 2000
Hi I believe that linseed oil applied up to six times on the finished layer of earth plaster works. This is a method used for floors could also be used for a bench. Each layer must be applied after the last has dried. The first layer put on neat, the next thinned with 25% terpentine, the next thinned with 50% terpentine and so on. Finally the bees wax layer is applied two parts linseed oil to one part wax. A full description of this can be found in the Cobbers Companion by Michael Smith (1998). I'm not sure that this is very durable though for a bench that provides for tired bottoms. Perhaps a natural wood sealer would do a better job as it is designed for heavy usage and would supply superior weather resistance. What does anyone think? How suitable is Natural wood sealer to cob? Will the cob absorb the sealer and breath? All the best Caoimhin Ireland -------------- next part -------------- <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>Sealer For cob bench</TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF"> Hi<BR> <BR> I believe that linseed oil applied up to six times on the finished layer of earth plaster works.
