Cob: RE: acquiring clay-typesCharmaine R Taylor tms at northcoast.comTue Nov 13 15:24:15 PST 2001
Georgia Clay is always red I thought, and Kaoilin is usually pale grey to whitish. I am betting the Georgia clay has sand in it, and is very sticky, right Pat? more like a Gumbo clay ( gumbotil is the tech name) here is the clay range senario Most dense and sticky..................................................finest particle clay Gumbo-(Montmorillionite) (water loving)......................Kaolin (least H20 affected) so buying potter's clay- Kaolin is good becuase it shrinks and swells the least, and not much is needfor those sandy Floridians. Kaolin is mined, sifted and bagged..very easy to get and use. Charmaine Taylor/ Taylor Publishing http://www.dirtcheapbuilder.com http://www.papercrete.com
