Cob: New to this list and the idea of cob

Hi everyone,
I am very interested in this idea of cob building and am a newbie to this site, so please bare with me. I do live in Minnesota, which I see from several postings, is not a very cob friendly area.

I have tried to scan the last 6 years of the archives, but it takes a long time to read all those postings!!(although I am working on it!)

My question is, has anyone ever tried building a cob house with the solid foam insulation in the walls of the cob home? If so, how well does it work?

I thought of your idea of strawbale with cob on the inside and stucco on the outside, but think the walls will be too thick and it would cost a lot more to put up the post and beam system to support the sb structure.

Any help for a cold Minnasotan would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I see a lot of great pictures of your finished cob houses, but no one ever shows a pic of the floor plans. I see rooms in many pic's that I would like to use, but have no idea as to where to start in the visualizing process of the planning of a cob home. I realize I will have to take a class this coming summer which will help me understand the building process, but with an idea this exciting, I would like to start planing what I would like my house to look like. If you have just a small pic, even hand drawn, of what your cob house looks like I would love to see your ideas.

Thank you all for your help and support!
Sharon Cox
