FW: Cob: clarification on Quick lime vs hydrateOcean ahimsaocean at yahoo.comFri Jan 11 07:48:28 PST 2002
Thanks Charmaine, And it would be good to repost the warning about slaking, as I've done it the wrong way (dumping the dry quicklime in a garbage can, then adding water with a hose...lots of bubbling and splattering, luckily I put the lid over it and didn't get splashed). What do you find to be the best way to slake? Dumping the quicklime powder into a garbage can of water? VERY important to use a metal can. Ianto said he did it in a plastic one (!!!) and it melted. The grass under our garbage can scorched during slaking! Ocean ps: At last! I've posted a very basic website for our restaurant, with a few pics...more to come later.
