She has been active in advancing and supporting human rights and social justice struggles around the planet for more than twenty years.</font> <p><font face="Arial">Ms. Benjamins current focus on Afghanistan is an extension of her lifelong commitment to improving conditions for humans and the environment. In 2000, she garnered widespread support as the Green Party candidate for US Senate in California, with platform issues that included living wage, schools-not prisons, and universal healthcare. She has worked to improve labor and environmental practices of US multinational corporations and has spoken out against harmful policies of the World Trade Organization (WTO), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
