Cob: Clay or silt?

Sounds like that grey stuff has a lot of silt. I was fooled by silt, too. It was so sticky (on shoes, tires, etc.) it 'had' to be clay but it made crumbly bricks even with lots of straw. Bad stuff. Easily eroded. Good clay will dry nice & hard even in a thin block.
