Cob: Clay or silt?

Sounds like that grey stuff has a lot of silt.  I was fooled by silt, =
too.  It was so sticky (on shoes, tires, etc.) it 'had' to be clay but =
it made crumbly bricks even with lots of straw.  Bad stuff.  Easily =
eroded.  Good clay will dry nice & hard even in a thin block.
